Preparing for your first appointment
Upon booking you will receive an intake form where you will be asked to describe your main concern(s), as well as all past injuries, surgeries, physical impacts, scars, and any history of pain that may have preceded your current concern(s). This information is an integral part of the myoActivation process, it’s all connected!
What to bring
Please bring or wear clothing that will allow Dr. Tara to better visualize your standing posture, postural changes with movement, and access the areas requiring treatment.
For women - shorts with an elastic waistband, and a sports bra (individual shoulder straps are preferred to the racer back style), or thin strapped tank top.
For men - shorts with an elastic waistband, expect to take off your shirt.
Long hair - please bring and elastic or clip to tie your hair back.
What to expect
At your first appointment we will thoroughly review your intake form and answer any questions you may have before proceeding with the assessment.
Assessment - involves static postural analysis, and dynamic movement tests in order to establish baseline ranges of motion and to determine which movements create discomfort or pain. Palpation and treatment of specific soft tissue areas identified by the testing follows.
Treatment - release of the dysfunctional myofascial tissue(s) that are limiting your ability to move well and live pain-free. Dr. Tara will release the areas identified as causing the problem using a needling technique. After each release, we will re-test your movement patterns to see what has changed and to determine where to treat next. This unravelling process of test-treat cycles identifies the multiple and different areas of anatomical distortion that are contributing to your myofascial pain or limitations in movement.
Post-Treatment - after treatment we will re-assess your range of motion and perceived pain to see what has changed. Many patients feel improvement immediately following treatment.
Aftercare - at the end of the appointment we’ll chat about what to expect, provide a handout with tips to support your body post-treatment, and discuss ideal timing for scheduling subsequent appointments.
